LAUDERHILL: Vice Mayor Richard Campbell Arrested Following Domestic Dispute

Lauderhill Vice Mayor Richard Campbell was taken into custody on Monday following an alleged domestic dispute. Broward County Jail records show the official was booked on two charges: simple domestic battery and tampering with or harassing a witness or victim.

Television cameras captured deputies escorting Campbell into the jail facility as he attempted to shield his face with a suit jacket. City officials appointed Campbell to serve a single term as vice mayor in 2025, and he is currently running for a seat on the Lauderhill City Commission.

Commission Meeting Absence

Campbell's seat remained vacant during a city commission meeting held on Monday evening. Mayor Denise Grant addressed the absence by noting that the vice mayor typically handles public communications.

Instead of Campbell, the previous vice mayor was asked to step in and manage those communications for the evening.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have declined to release further details regarding the circumstances of the arrest. The Lauderhill Police Department stated it would not comment due to the open and ongoing nature of the investigation.

When questioned about the incident by reporters, Mayor Grant similarly offered no comment.
