A Pompano Beach man is facing two child abuse charges after Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies accused him of striking two children outside an apartment building.

Investigators identified the suspect as 31-year-old Enrique Diaz. Deputies said the incident happened Saturday night at the building where Diaz and the children live.

According to the arrest report, the children told deputies they were sitting outside when Diaz approached them. Investigators said one child was struck on the head and slapped, while the second child was grabbed by the head and slapped.

The children told investigators they did not know why the confrontation occurred and said they had no previous interaction with Diaz beyond being neighbors. Diaz was granted bond on the child abuse charges but remained in custody on an immigration hold at the time of Local 10’s report.
