MIAMI: Man arrested after allegedly following and attacking woman
Miami police arrested a 28-year-old man accused of following a woman for nearly 20 blocks before attacking and sexually assaulting her inside an office building.
A 28-year-old man has been arrested after Miami police said he followed a woman for nearly 20 blocks before attacking her inside an office building.
Police said the 40-year-old woman had left a nightclub in Wynwood early Friday morning and was walking home along Biscayne Boulevard after her phone ran out of battery.
According to investigators, she noticed a stranger following her near Northeast 24th Street and attempted to distance herself from him. Police said she eventually entered a well-lit office building at 4770 Biscayne Boulevard because she feared for her safety.
Authorities said the suspect followed her into the building and attacked her in the lobby before dragging her into a mailroom. The woman was eventually able to escape and reach a nearby CVS, where she contacted police.
Investigators said DNA evidence helped identify the suspect, who was arrested Tuesday in Allapattah. He faces multiple felony charges, including kidnapping, attempted murder and sexual battery.
The case remains before the courts.
